Since the demise of the coal industry, Wakefield has had to look elsewhere for its economic survival. The city is located on the junction of the M1 and M62, and mainline stations on the East coast London/Edinburgh rail-line give easy access to major ports on the East and West coast, as well as routes North to Scotland and South to London. This has encouraged freight and storage companies to set up on sites such as Junction 41 and Wakefield Europort, and these in turn have contributed towards the region's economic rebirth. The growth being seen in Leeds and Wakefield has benefited the whole area with smaller towns such as Batley benefiting. Now is a good time to invest in residential property in the area.
